According to the association, scientific findings must always be at the basis of treatment methods for obesity therapy. As Vice President of the German Society for Bariatric Surgery, Prof. Weiner is well placed to ensure compliance with this principle. As head of the department of surgery in the hospital Krankenhaus Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt a.M., his day-to-day activities focus on the treatment of morbidly obese patients, not only from a scientific, but also from a practical point of view. As member of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and member of the Advisory Board of the International Society of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO), Prof. Weiner is active not only in Germany, but also internationally. In an international context, he is committed to disseminating information on the effects of the worldwide obesity epidemic and to fighting this epidemic. For Prof. Weiner, the foundation of an association aimed at providing information on obesity and its treatment was only the logical consequence of his international commitment. For also in Germany the number of overweight people continues to grow rapidly, and yet obesity is still not considered by many as a serious “popular disease”. This is exactly what the Obesity Academy Frankfurt e. V. would like to change.
